#MyThursdayThing: Intentions

I think a lot and I have a very good memory… (Not the best things to boast about, I can assure you). I am always thinking, when I am painting, walking, in shower, cooking, driving all the time. The thoughts go from day dreaming about an idea, or a plan or just a hypothetical event in the future to remembering things of the past, stories, anecdotes, jokes all just randomly cross the mind.  Now some of these random stories or visualization episodes are entertainment in themselves.  More often than not, when I see something or read about something, I always have a story or an anecdote or a plan or a theory on that thing or subject.

My immediate reaction is I must blog about it. When a thought crosses my mind, in my head I am at it. I have penned down my post already, what I will say, how it will start and how it will finish etc   In order to not forget the topic, I even jot down my idea or the gist of the blog post in my diary.  It gets noted there, in my to-do list and mostly that’s the end of it. Not on account of lack of intention but purely on account of lack of action to back that intention. Totally pushed aside by the more pressing things in my to-do list like painting, taking care of the house, (prior to lock-down even going out of house for classes or meetings)…  Ideas come and go, some stories get dated and I am never able to pen them down to share with everyone.

I recently spoke to my best friend who is an accomplished author about how I am never able to get this one thing done and she gave me this fabulous idea… Commit yourself to the world, to the public, pick a day and announce to the world that they shall be hearing from you on that day… The pressure to keep a promise to the world will enable you to give the right amount of priority to this item on the to-do list, she said. I found it to be a great idea and I committed the day of Thursday to myself to write and share with the world whatever is on my mind.  I then spent the rest of my time not in what to write but what to call this series that will be published every Thursday. Between my friend and me we went through many names, most dismissed because they sounded too cliched... some were very interesting but long…

And finally Wednesday arrived, I was a day away from my 1st post on my blog. I was still worried about what to call this effort. I finally decided to leave that and just start writing. I decided to start with  penning down how the journey between intention and action sometimes is a long a long one…  I was reminded of an advice by a senior friend of mine, he always said, it is not just enough to have an intention, you have to back it with appropriate action.  At that point coaxing me to go out and meet people if I wanted to have a companion. He said, “if you want a date, you will have to make an effort to let the potential people know that you want a date and are available… you have to back your desire with some action…”

His advice may or may not have led me to find a date, but remembering it at the right time it led me to give actionable wings to my desire to blog regularly. I decided this has to be a thing I have to do no matter what, once a week, an hour put aside to talk to the world. And there I got a name for my series too. So here I am with my 1st post, in which I share with you the journey of a thought from the allies of mind onto the paper. A journey of an intention and finally the birth of #MyThursdayThings.
